アンディ・ウォーホルのポートレートから、AIが認識した特徴量（latent）を差し引き、再構成したペインティング。生成AIが画像を潜在空間（latent space）へ圧縮し、確率的に再構成した過程で生じた差異―AIが“重要ではない”と判断した情報のみを抽出。これらは、AIにとっては誤差やノイズですが、私たちは、この断片からでも、顔の気配や人間らしさを感じ取ります。
ウォーホルは芸術を表層へと還元しました。現在、AIもまた、膨大な計算によって世界を表層的に処理しています。ウォーホルの肖像から、AIによる表層を引いたとき、そこに残るものは何でしょうか。

A painting reconstructed by subtracting the features (latents) recognized by AI from a portrait of Andy Warhol. Generative AI compresses an image into latent space and probabilistically reconstructs it; this work extracts only the differences produced in that process—the information the AI deemed “unimportant.”For the AI, these are mere errors or noise. Yet from these fragments, we still sense the presence of a face, a trace of humanity.
Warhol reduced art to the surface. Today, AI likewise processes the world superficially through vast computation. When we subtract the AI-generated surface from Warhol’s portrait, what remains?
“v1.5” in -latent v1.5 refers to the version of Stable Diffusion used. This work is presented alongside its counterpart, +latent v1.5.
